BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION: WFP Internship – Operational Risk Mitigation Service, HQ Rome, Italy, US$1000 per month

The Operational Risk Mitigation Service (INS) develops and implements risk management and insurance programmes to respond to evolving organizational needs. We work with relevant services to design and implement effective risk mitigation solutions, provide pre-emptive guidance on practical loss prevention; coordinate the determination of causes of loss and damage and direct salvage reconditioning and disposal of any damaged cargo.

Under the supervision and guidance of the Insurance Analyst and in collaboration with INS colleagues, the intern will support operations by reviewing, analyzing and capturing incidents.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: WFP Internship – Operational Risk Mitigation Service, HQ Rome, Italy, US$1000 per month

Under the direct supervision of the Insurance Analyst, the candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Support the accurate capturing of incidents, by working with INS colleagues to review, analyse and capture incidents in the insurance management system
  • Gather and organize documenting evidence to support reported cases
  • Analyse cases to determine relevant priority levels
  • Perform data analysis and present results using Excel, PowerPoint
  • Follow up on the life cycle and raise any concerns where highly prioritized incidents are at risk of delays
  • Assist in the determination of incidents that require thorough investigation and capture root cause and investigatory evidence in the system
  • Support the team in preparation of research, reports, presentations in relation to incidents

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: WFP Internship – Operational Risk Mitigation Service, HQ Rome, Italy, US$1000 per month

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university;
  • University course attendance in the past 12 months.

  • Good attention to detail and strong communication and reporting skills
  • Outstanding research, data entry and analytical skills
  • Data Analysis and presentation skills using Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Work effectively in a multi-cultural and diverse international environment
  • Ability to plan work and organize tasks with reasonable supervision
  • Ability to multi-task and solve problems in a fast-paced environment
  • Time management skills with an ability to plan ahead, anticipate problems and obstacles

WORKING LANGUAGES

Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C).

SUPERVISION

Under the direct supervision of the insurance analyst (systems and information), the incumbent will be provided with mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Performance planning, reviews and active feedback will be an elemental part of the supervision. The incumbent will also be in active contact with the Director of INS. With the support of a comprehensive induction package and assignment of a buddy/mentor, the intern will rapidly become a productive member of the team.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, WFP’s WeLearn.  Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

  • Gain advanced insight in incidence reporting, losses and other industry standard insurance processes.
  • Have a greater understanding of WFP’s work and how WFP uses risk and insurance to support its programmatic goals
  • Develop technical skills in data capturing and recording in information management systems
  • Work as part of a multicultural, diverse team and international environment
  • Understand key thematic areas of WFP’s work

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.

WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
